The book of Proverbs is chalk full of sound biblical wisdom to help teach and train your children in many aspects of godly wisdom. Chapters 1-9 are the epitomy of a parenting handbook where a father is urging his son to pursue the path of wisdom in order to achieve godly success in life.
So over the next few weeks we'll look at 10 principles that will give all of us a starting point on aspects of wisdom to teach your children. I have taken these from What the Bible Says about Parenting, written by John MacArthur. I highly recommend this book to every parent wanting solid biblical parenting guides. This by no means is an exhaustive list. God's word is full of principles on godly living and what pleases Him and how to please Him.
- Teach your children to fear the Lord
- Teach your children to guard their minds
- Teach your children to obey their parents
- Teach your children to select good friends
- Teach your children to control their lusts
- Teach your children to enjoy their spouses
- Teach your children to watch their words
- Teach your children to pursue their work
- Teach your children to manage their money
- Teach your children to love their neighbors
I'm looking forward to this endeavor because I know God will use this in my own life as I parent my own kids.

Great post De! I wholeheartedly agree with the centrality of Deuteronomy 6 for a parent's responsibility before God. We are their first teachers as to how to see who God is in our lives, the place and time and honor we give to Him. Personally, I did not have that opportunity at home with my earthly parents, BUT God...he brought me out of darkness into his marevelous light in Jesus, and parented me along so that I in turn, equipped with his word of truth and a heart to serve him in this area, have been able to plant incorruptible seeds in my children's lives. Thanks for reminding us to be mature and responsible parents for God's glory.
